Somewhere under the flaming wreckage is a John Deere Riding lawn mower. This is an actual photo taken by a firefighter.
We all know someone, or at least heard someone, mowing their high weeds down on their property on a hot, dry day, with a North wind blowing. The unmistakable sound of a mower hitting rocks, banging and clattering over the pasture.
Or worse, hearing the engine backfire as the operator struggles to keep the machine going.
He has no fire extinguisher, no water source, but he has his gas can near the road so he can fill it up.
Please don't be "this guy."
Please keep your equipment in good operating order!
Please keep your equipment clean-- using compressed air or washing out the chaff and weeds from the pulleys, belts, sheaves, and mower deck.
Please replace leaking fuel lines with proper rated fuel hose!
Clean grease and oil off the engine, transmission, and other power train parts
Check the engine oil level and coolant level regularly
NEVER fill a hot engine with gasoline!
Keep a fire extinguisher and water source nearby in the case of fire
Never mow on a hot, windy day.
Here are some good tips:
